Coromandel Greens to Auction
Breakfast at the Beehive With Jeanette
In a
“fun fundraising exercise,” which it’s organisers
swear was planned long before the present parliamentary
debacle over electoral funding, Coromandel Greens are (this
upcoming Sunday) auctioning a “tempting bunch of diverse
items” and one “surprise item”, now revealed as
breakfast at the beehive with Party Co-Leader Jeanette
Fitzsimons.
While hoeing down on a liquid lunch of soup and sangria at the Kauaranga Valley Hall, just a stone’s throw from Jeanette and partner Harry Parkes’s farm near Thames, Party members and “anyone who cares” will receive an astute update on climate change and peak oil. Fresh from a “fact finding mission” to Europe and the USA, Ms Fitzsimons will report on how the rest of the world is dealing with these important issues, while also explaining “in practical terms what New Zealanders can now be doing about this on a local level.”
A fundraising auction before Ms Fitzsimons’ speech, will determine who will be breakfasting by her side at the beehive. No, not in Wellington. In true Greens style, this is a picnic breakfast down on the farm in the Kauaranga Valley, by the beehive, with pancakes made by Jeanette, topped (of course) with honey from the hive. Also up for grabs at the auction is a car described by its one female owner as “a reliable, economical, 10 year old Mitsubishi Galant, 167,000 Ks, with fully reconditioned transmission, new computer, tow bar, and all receipts”.
Artworks donated by local artists Pam Plummer, Allie Curran, Anne Bowden, and potter Barry Brickell will also be going to the highest bidders. They include a macrocarpa and mosaic garden totem, a macrocarpa and mosaic seat, an oil painting, “Coromandel Heatwave”, and a garden mosaic rock.
Other items range from, “a month of unlimited mat classes at the intriguingly named “CHEWING GUM PILATES”, a $25 voucher to SOLA CAFÉ (a standout Thames eatery luring eager foodies from allover), two hours labour from local COMPUTER GEEKS SERVICES, a one hour consultation including iridology and blood analysis, with Thames NATUROPATH PETER RAYNEL, a service from local bike shop PRICE & RICHARDS, a $20 voucher from local bookshop CARSONS, to a health and beauty basket containing “Forgotten Feet” body butter from the local HEALTH 2000, sunscreen and hand and body lotion from Peter Raynel’s BETA-4-U range, and organic anti-wrinkle cream from THAMES TOTAL HEALTH PHARMACY.
