Takapuna Community Election
As a result of the death of Mr Wayne Tisdall on 3 October 2006, an extraordinary vacancy exists in the office of an elected member of the Takapuna Community Board.
Given the extraordinary vacancy occurred more than 12 months before the next triennial general election (13 October 2007), the vacancy must be filled by an election.
As Council became aware of the vacancy "in the period that begins on 28 September in any year and ends with the close of 20 November in that year, the polling day for the election must be a day not earlier than 10 February in the following year". In view of this provision of the Local Electoral Act 2001, polling day will be Saturday, 10 February 2007.
The election will be conducted by postal voting using the First Past the Post system.
Nominations will open on Friday, 24 November 2006 and will close with Electoral Officer Peter McArthur at 12 noon on Friday, 22 December 2006.
The anticipated cost of the election is $60,000.
