Advertising Industry Puts In Magnificent EffortAt CAANZ Charity Art Auction

The advertising industry came together Wednesday for the annual CAANZ Charity Art Auction and in a stunning display of charitable goodwill, raised more than $23,000 for Alzheimers Auckland.

Organised by the Communication Agencies Association (CAANZ) and sponsored by TVNZ, the annual charity art auction raised $23,495 through the sale of 77 pieces of art work generously donated by creatives and various advertising agencies.

“Its great to see our industry get in behind this event and do something really positive for a charity like Alzheimer’s Auckland. The spirit of our industry is truly in good heart,” said CAANZ CEO Mark Champion.

Hosted by Dominic Bowden and auctioneered by Barfoot & Thompson’s Brett Trigger, the crowd of about 250 people rallied behind the charity and bid furiously on the wide range of high quality art which went under the hammer.

The winning bid of the night was an incredible $3,000 for a lacquered wood piece created by Mike Davison of DDB entitled ‘Pakeha Teko Teko’. Wiremu Farmer’s (Big Communications) stunning ‘Nikau Palm’ cloth print sold for $2,200.

"We feel incredibly privileged to have been the beneficiaries of the 2006 CAANZ Charity Auction and the auction was living proof that the creative spirit is alive and kicking as there were some absolutely amazing pieces donated," says Sue Brewster, General Manager of Alzheimers Auckland.

"Through the generosity of the creatives, the sponsors and the people who attended, the money raised will contribute directly to the ongoing advancement of our Advisory Service. Through these generous actions, the advertising industry has helped to enable and empower some of the 9,000 people with dementia in the Auckland region and we can't thank them enough."

CAANZ wishes to thank TVNZ for their extensive involvement as well as The Conference Company, Big Communications, Plump Photography, Multimedia, El Framo, AdMedia, InterACTION, Barfoot & Thompson, Omnigraphics and Media One for their valued support.
