Living Room door opens for creative proposals
Following on from the success of the 2006 Living Room series, Auckland City is seeking proposals from the creative sector for temporary events, installations or interventions in the CBD that will contribute to the 2007 Living Room programme.
Living Room promotes the concept of the CBD as being the “living room” of the city and has been piloted over the past two years with the purpose of enlivening and animating the public spaces of the CBD.
Auckland City would now like to develop the programme further and invites the creative sector to submit proposals.
The 2007 Living Room programme will occur from mid March to late May. Proposed temporary events or installations may be in place from one to eight weeks, depending on the concept.
Proposed events or installations must be located within the CBD and more particularly have a focus on Queen Street and its main feeder streets, be on outdoor public spaces and be permitted under the Central Area District Plan, or be easily capable of obtaining a resource consent.
A panel of selectors will evaluate the proposals. The panel will include:
- a member of the CBD Board
- an Auckland City councillor
- three Auckland City staff members
- a member of the creative sector.
A shortlist of applicants will be invited to discuss their submissions with the panel.
To find out more about the Living Room programme and how to submit a proposal visit, www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/cbd or call 09 379 2020 to request an application form.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday, 10 November 2006.
Living Room is funded by the CBD targeted rate and is a key action from Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy, which aims to transform Auckland’s CBD into a dynamic and vibrant centre of cultural and business activity.
Previous installations or events that have been part of Living Room in the past include Living Lamps, Castles in the Sand, Poetry on the Pavement, Hang n Out, Skeletons in the Closet, Musical Bus Stops, Morning Tea and more.
