CMJ traffic bulletin: Saturday 2 September until Thursday 7 September
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2 Full motorway closures: Sunday 3 until Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9.30pm until 5am the following morning: Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound from Cook St off-ramp to Hobson St on-ramp
Sunday 3 and Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning: Southern Motorway (SH1) between Symonds/Port/Wellesley off-ramp and Wellington St on ramp northbound
Ramp and link closures: Sunday 3 and Monday 4 September – CLOSED – during the day and overnight from 7am on Sunday until 5am on Monday: -Newton Rd on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 3 until Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning: Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Nelson St off-ramp citybound Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 3 until Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning: Southern Motorway to Northwestern Motorway (SH1 to SH16 link) westbound
Sunday 3 until Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 11pm until 5am the following morning: Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to St Lukes Rd off-ramp westbound
Sunday 3 and Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning: Southern Motorway (SH1) to Nelson St off-ramp citybound
Monday 4 September – CLOSED – overnight from 8.30pm until 5am on Tuesday:Newton Rd on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Monday 4 and
Tuesday 5 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until
5am the following morning: Northwestern Motorway (SH16)
to Port link eastbound Northwestern Motorway to
Southern Motorway (SH16 to SH1 link) southbound
Tuesday
5 until Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from
11pm until 5am the following morning: Hobson St on-ramp
to Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound
Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
Port to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) link westbound including Wellesley St on-ramp
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St. The SH16 Newton Rd to Western Springs Auxiliary Lane westbound widening project is included in CMJ Stage 2 works.
The Public Information Centre at 13-19 Howe St, Freemans Bay is no longer open on a regular basis. Any member of the public who has concerns about or wishes to discuss aspects of the project may make an appointment by phoning 0800 CMJ CORE (0800 265 2673).
