Letter to Chch Mayor re. Cuts to Waiting Lists
11th August 2006
Garry Moore
Mayor
Christchurch
Dear Garry,
Re: Cuts to Waiting
Lists in CDHB
At a meeting held on Monday the 7th of August, members of both our Health Cuts Hurt group and of the public voted unanimously to support a resolution as follows:
That this meeting approve the presentation of a delegation to the Mayor of Christchurch calling on him to: (1) state publicly that he is appalled by the continuing cuts to waiting lists in Canterbury and (2) that he will fight for fair funding for the CDHB to correct the flawed population based funding model and (3) work to find solutions to these issues in the best interest of the community of Canterbury.
One of the points made consistently at the meeting was that all New Zealanders were aware of matters of consequence to other local areas such as gang patches in Wanganui or criminal issues in the Rotorua CBD because local civic leaders had fronted the matters nationally. There was a call for our Mayor to make the extremity of the waiting list and health cuts in our region a matter that Wellington policy makers cannot keep avoiding.
It was pointed out at the meeting that you as Mayor had previously become involved in health matters for the region not only in electioneering in 2004 for 2021 but also in times of other crises with the CDHB when industrial conflict in 2002 threatened services.
We seek a meeting with you so that a delegation from the meeting can discuss these matters.
Yours sincerely,
Eleanor
