Rodney District Council and Rodney’s live and local radio station Times FM have joined forces to ensure motorists passing through the district will be able to avoid any holiday or accident-related traffic congestion.

Two billboards have been erected at gateway locations in Rodney advising motorists to tune in to the local Times FM on 89.9FM to access the station’s regular traffic updates.

Mayor Law, who joined station manger Anna McGovern in unveiling the billboards, said that by tuning in motorists could potentially save a lot of time and avoid frustrations.  They will be able to follow other routes as proposed on air to avoid congestion ahead. This is a service no other radio station offers, he said.

“The billboards encourage drivers to tune in to our local station who will be providing continuous updated information on any roading emergencies.  This is important if we are to spread the impact of road closures where we use alternative routes.

“Good roading information can give motorists advance warnings to avoid congestion, or to advise travellers that are caught in congestion as to how to possibly escape that.”

Mr Law paid tribute to TimesFM, saying the station has been particularly community minded and an important link to providing information to the public.
                                                                              

Anna McGovern, Times FM general manager said that her station was passionately committed to making Rodney roads safer for locals and those travelling through alike.  “We are thrilled that we have been able to join forces with Rodney District Council in giving an up to date, immediate source of information for all those motorists who need it.”

The billboards are located on Grand Drive and Kahakatea Drive.  More billboards are planned further north in Warkworth and Wellsford.
