Hooha! It’s Winter Splash again

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

14 July 2006

Hooha! It’s Winter Splash again

Auckland City in association with Rotary Auckland East Inc brings you another fun-filled day of Winter Splash at Mission Bay on 30 July.

Winter Splash is an annual event and sponsored mid winter-swim with activities and entertainment for all ages.

It will feature a Big Dig competition where kids are encouraged to dig furiously through the sand searching for brightly coloured discs to win prizes, as well as a swim in the sea for those who are daring enough to brave the elements in the current temperatures.

If that’s too wacky or not quite wacky enough, then grab your most outrageous fancy dress costume and win an exciting prize that way.

Sarah Fairhead, Auckland City event organiser, says, “Winter Splash is a permanent fixture on Auckland’s events calendar. Those brave enough to take the plunge are rewarded with a hot cup of tea and plenty of fun and laughter.”

Entry fees for the Big Dig and the costume competitions are $2 and all proceeds go to Rotary Auckland East Inc.

The Big Dig is at 10am and the official Winter Splash at 10.45am, when swimmers take to the icy Mission Bay waters, followed by the prizegiving at 11.15am.

Make sure you bring warm clothes and register before the swim to win some great spot prizes donated by local businesses.
