CraftBrewers Boathouse Beer Bonanza

CraftBrewers Boathouse Beer Bonanza

The Boathouse, Wakefield Quay
5pm onwards
Friday July 28th 2006

CraftBrewers, the marketing organisation designed to raise the awareness of the Nelson region's premium brewing expertise, is holding a beer tasting extravaganza from 5pm on Friday July 28th at the Boathouse, Wakefield Quay in Nelson.

Members of the public are invited to taste and profile the crafted beer from the 4 major breweries in the top of the south, namely Tasman Brewing Co., (formerly Harrington's,) The Mussel Inn, The Lighthouse Brewery and Founders Brewery.

The event, inspired by a recent 'wet-run' at the Mussel Inn, is designed to allow people to meet and greet the talent behind, what many consider, are some of the best beers in the southern hemisphere.

"Just as New World wine is currently giving the French a Œsore head,' the Nelson region has a brewing reputation to rival anywhere in the world," says CraftBrewers co-founder, Martin Townshend. "Malted barley and yeast combined with local hops, water and skill, produce beers local beer drinkers can really take a pride in."

Both head brewers and owners will be present to answer questions as well as serve up their fresh tasty brews. The four CraftBrewers breweries include New Zealand's first organic brewery, the country's smallest brewery, the brewer of the Hobbits' favourite in the Lord of the Rings movie, and home of the infamous, (and soon to be brewed in Belgium) Captain Cooker Manuka beer.

Martin Townshend adds, "Those cheap, bland mainstream beers that you can get anywhere have their place, but craft beers are beers to savour, to treasure, to sup and to quaff - to have a conversation with, not an argument!

Beer doesn't come better than this, and it's made by local New Zealanders, not foreign-owned conglomerates."

ENTRY FEE is $5 at the door* which includes a free, limited edition Cervoise beer glass engraved with the CraftBrewers logo and the first beer is FREE!

* (free admission to Boathouse members)
