Councils deploy small Civil Defence team to help out in Ashburton
Rescue Response Teams from Christchurch City Council, Waimakariri District Council and the Canterbury Civil Defence Group, this morning departed for Ashburton following a request for assistance from the Ashburton District Council.
The teams will help deliver food to those people unable to get out of their homes due to recent snowfalls, as well as endeavouring to get in touch with households that have yet to be contacted due to the snow and a lack of power and phones.
Team members will form teams of two, each with a 4WD vehicle.
