ChCh/Banks Peninsula road/weather updates 13 June

Media advisory 9.05am

After yesterday's hazardous conditions, most roads throughout ChCh and Banks Peninsula have now reopened, with a few exceptions.

Police closed a number of the city's overbridges late last night because of ice but these were opened early this morning after grit had been applied by contractors who were out overnight working on many streets within Christchurch.

There will still be ice and some snow up around higher level roads, and drivers are urged to continue to take care on roads for the next couple of days.

There is no flooding being experienced in any areas.

Christchurch roads:

The carriageway on Old West Coast road is narrow today following yesterday's snow-ploughing and drivers need to take care.

Summit Road likely to remain closed for some time.

Dyers Pass road was opened shortly before 7am.

Peninsula:

Purau-Port Levy now open.

Summit Road above Akaroa now open.

Some roads into the bays remain closed, including Little Akaloa to Okains Bay - contractors will have begun working on these again now and hope to have them open by tonight.

Rubbish collections:

Those households in Christchurch that did not have their rubbish collected today, should take it back in and put it back out again tomorrow morning. If it is not collected tomorrow, it would be appreciated if the same process could be used the following day.

ChCh Metro Bus situation:

All buses running to schedule.
