Invitation to Octogenarians

Invitation to Octogenarians

The Nelson Cathedral is inviting anyone celebrating their 80th birthday this
year to a thanksgiving service for the Queen next Sunday.

Her Majesty celebrated her 80th birthday on 21st April this year, but the
official celebrations continue throughout the year. Dean Charles Tyrell says
the Nelson service is a community celebration that is open to everyone.

³It is an opportunity to honour our Queen who has continued to provide
stable leadership as Head of State,² he says. ³The idea is to come together
and sing a health unto Her Majesty!"

The Nelson service will feature state prayers and royal music to commemorate
those who turn 80 this year. There¹ll be a birthday cake, courtesy of the
Nelson City Council, which will be cut and shared during the service.

The service will be led by Dean Charles Tyrrell, with the two local mayors
present as well as other invited guests, and will include music from the
Cathedral choir.

The thanksgiving service is timed so people from other churches can attend,
on Sunday 18th June at 3.00pm.
