Architecture + Religion At Old St Paul's
Contemporary German Architecture
Important Dates: 7th - 22nd June 2006
Description of Event:
The Goethe-Institute is proud to present the most stunning sacral structures
recently built in Germany.
The exhibition - initiated by the Goethe-Institut in co-operation with the Gallery Aedes in Berlin - analyses the recent development in religious buildings and discusses contemporary German architecture.
The last years have seen the realisation of the most amazing religious
buildings for all denominations. "Made in Germany - Architecture + Religion"
presents nine of these religious buildings in all their diversity.
The examples show sites of inner calm and collective meditation, as well as the
ways in which a younger generation of architects integrates artistic and
metaphorical character.
The placement of this exhibition in New Zealand's icon, Old St Paul's, creates a fabulous contrast between contemporary German architecture and this unique 1866 Gothic church built of native New Zealand timber.
