Auckland rail network upgrade continues out West

As the construction work to build a second train track on the Western Line continues, buses will replace trains on Saturdays and holiday weekends in June over sections of Auckland rail network. Once complete, the second track will allow improvements to the frequency, capacity and reliability of train services - making it easier and quicker for Aucklanders to get around the region.

On Saturday 3 and Monday 5 June buses will replace trains between New Lynn and Waitakere (this will include the following stations are Waitakere, Swanson, Ranui, Sturges Road, Henderson, Sunnyvale, Glen Eden, Fruitvale Road and New Lynn). On the remaining Saturdays in June buses will replace trains between Waitakere and Henderson only.

June rail replacement buses will run as follows:

Saturday 3 and Monday 5 June (Queens Birthday weekend): Buses replace trains between Waitakere and New Lynn.
Note: On Monday 5 June a Saturday/ Public Holiday timetable will run, with no services after 9pm.

Saturday 10, 17 and 24 June: Buses replace trains between Henderson and Waitakere.
Note: On Saturday 17 June a special timetable will be in place for the All Blacks vs Ireland Rugby test at Eden Park. The timetable will be communicated separately with passengers.

Train staff will be on hand to help passengers with the transfer from trains to the rail bus replacements. As regular journey times may vary, passengers are advised to allow more time for their journey.

ARTA is working closely with track owners ONTRACK and train operator Veolia Transport to continue to deliver services with minimum disruption and an improved rail network for passengers. Passenger journeys on the Auckland rail network continue to grow by an average of 30 per cent, compared with same time last year.

Part of a wider rail network up-grade programme, Stage 2 Double Tracking works are key to the continued development of the Auckland rail network. Other improvements include an expanded fleet of refurbished trains, station upgrades and improved passenger information.
