Council to Open New Silverdale Route
The Rodney District Council has concluded its negotiations with The Warehouse to secure a section of roadway that opens up an alternative to the trouble-plagued Wainui Road, State Highway 1 intersection.
The new roadway, an extension to Silverdale Street, will provide Wainui Road and Silverdale traffic with a link to the Silverdale Parkway and its lights-controlled intersection with State Highway 1.
It will also enable a start on several other projects in the area, including the completion of a new watermain connection to the Peninsula.
Rodney’s mayor John Law says the opening of the new route will be the solution to a number of transport and services issues in Silverdale.
In particular, he says, it will enable much safer traffic flows.
The council’s new Transport Director, Murray Noone, says discussions with roading contractors will take place as early as this week and the announcement  of an opening date for the new road is expected shortly.
Meanwhile Leigh Road will remain open to left-turning traffic from Wainui Road.
