$400,000 to support Auckland’s community groups
More than 160 Auckland community groups will receive grants totalling $407,600 from Auckland City’s Community Group Assistance Fund.
The money will cover a wide range of costs from event management and staff training to the purchase of new computers and sports equipment.
Councillor Cathy Casey, chairperson of the Community Development and Equity Committee says, “The grants aim to increase community groups’ capacity by building on their existing skills, facilities and expertise. This support helps to further develop activities for Auckland’s diverse community groups.”
This year, more than 200 groups applied for grants.
Groups that received funding included: New Zealand Date Rape Trust, Tamaki Makau Rau Senior Kapa Haka Society Inc, Mt Roskill Rugby Football Club Inc and the Sea Lab Environmental Education Trust.
Community Group Assistance Funding is granted annually to groups undertaking community activities that have a city-wide benefit. The next funding round opens in January 2007.
