Evening sprinkler use on again

Evening sprinkler use on again

Raumati, Paraparaumu and Waikanae residents can use sprinklers in the evenings again.

“With the advent of the Waikanae Borefield supplementary supply we now have up to 23,000 cubic metres of water available each day all year round whether from the river, the bores or a combination of both,” Kapiti Coast District Council’s Water Use Coordinator Ben Thompson said.

“Based on a generous allocation of 450 litres per person per day that supply will be sufficient to meet the needs of the district for the next 30 years if it’s managed prudently,” he said.

Water use varies at different times of the year according to the seasons.

“During winter it is appropriate to encourage water use that will help people to establish new lawns and to prepare gardens for the next summer.

“In summer months, household demand increases quite dramatically which means stricter outdoor use conditions are needed.”

Anyone who believes they need to use a sprinkler in the summer months should investigate the installation of rain tanks or a household bore. The Council’s Green Gardener and Plumber Services can provide advice to householders who want to ensure they are managing their water use sensibly.
