KOPP To Lay Complaint With Auditor-Gen, Ombudsman
Keep Our Port Public To Lay Complaint With Auditor-General & Ombudsman
KOPP (Keep Our Port Public) will be lodging a complaint later this week with both the Auditor-General and the Ombudsman in respect of the planned sale by the Christchurch City Council of a large portion of its shareholding in Lyttelton Port Company.
KOPP has serious concerns about the lack of public consultation and the decision making process which authorised the sale of the Council's majority shareholding in the operating arm of Lyttelton Port Company, not only into private hands but into foreign ownership.
Furthermore KOPP submits that misleading public statements have been made in respect of the planned sale. Given the value of strategic public assets to both the Christchurch community and New Zealanders, KOPP expects publicly elected representatives to follow proper process and uphold the law where decisions relating to ownership and/or management of strategic assets are concerned.
