Changes to Northcote Road pedestrian footpath

Auckland Regional Office

13 April 2006

Changes to Northcote Road pedestrian footpath

From Wednesday 19 April, the pedestrian footpath on Northcote Road will be moved from the northern side to the southern side of the road. Moving the footpath will enable construction to continue on the tunnel under Northcote Road that is being built as part of the Northern Busway Project. The tunnel will be part of the two-way dedicated bus lane for buses alongside the Northern Motorway.

This will also benefit local schools by providing a footpath on the same side of the road. Pupils previously had to walk on the northern side of Northcote Road alongside Smales Office Park and then cross a busy intersection.

The footpath across the southbound on-ramp will be controlled by traffic signals.

The positions of the eastbound and westbound lanes on Northcote Road will also be changed slightly from Thursday 20 April. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be aware of the new road layout.

"The pedestrian footpath change brings a positive move towards the completion of the Northern Busway Project and improves safety for pedestrians, especially school children," says Northern Busway Project Director Clive Fuhr.
