MEDIA ADVISORY

Conversation on Auckland takes to the air

World-renowned photographer and Prix de Rome winner Alex MacLean will speak as part of 'Designing Auckland: urban transformations', a series of conversations on urban design hosted by Mayor Dick Hubbard.

Best known for his dramatic aerial photographs capturing patterns on landscapes, such as roads, subdivisions, farmland, parking lots and playgrounds, Mr MacLean is also a Harvard-trained architect. He is the author of four books including Designs on the Landscape and the co-author with James Corner of Taking Measures Across the American Landscape.

He will document the Auckland landscape, natural and man-made, from the air while he is here with a view to exhibiting the images in 2007. Depending on weather conditions, Mr MacLean will present images he will have captured of Auckland from the air at the lecture.

'Designing Auckland: urban transformations' aims to promote a wider understanding of urban design issues facing the city. The conversation series was a recommendation from the Mayoral Task Force on Urban Design to help establish Auckland as a world-class design-led city that is attractive and sustainable in form and function.
