Improvement work continues on borefield
Review and analysis of the Waikanae borefield continues as part of Kapiti Coast District Council’s ongoing water
services improvement programme, General Manager, Community Assets & Services, Rob Williams, said today.
“Each of the six bores in the field varies in output volume, hardness and degree of treatment required to remove the
magnesium and iron content.
“All of the bores were approved by the Ministry of Health as raw water sources in the first instance.
“And, ultimately, the treated water from all the bores in the field more than meets the New Zealand Drinking Water
Standards.
“We promised the community earlier in the year that we would seek ways to reduce hardness and improve the taste and
that’s what we’re doing.
“From the start the lowest quality water and the hardest water has come from bore K13. That continues to be the case and
for that reason it is the last of the six bores to be brought into operation when the bores are in use.
“However, as I’ve said, the treated water from all the bores, including K13, continues to meet the drinking water
standards,” Mr Williams said.
A recent plan of the borefield, including yield data, is attached.
Currently water from two of the bores that provide softer water is supplementing the water available from the river.
