Have your say on Margaret Griffen Park
Auckland City is inviting the public to comment on the new concept plans for Margaret Griffen Park at an open day on Saturday 18 March.
The new plans will see a number of enhancements to the park's amenities including a playground upgrade and a perimeter pathway to encourage runners and leisure activities.
Two rain gardens will be constructed to improve stormwater quality, and control the volume of stormwater entering the Whau Stream. The gardens consist of dense, native vegetation which collect and filter stormwater and help prevent erosion of the Whau Stream during periods of heavy rain.
Auckland City's landscape architect, Susan Hunter, says the upgrade aims to make the park a place for more of the community to use and enjoy.
"The development of the rain gardens and swales will not only improve the drainage and quality of water flowing from the park, but will also provide an interesting and educational place for people to visit.
"One of the most exciting parts of the project is the construction of a lookout point over the new rain garden area along with the installation of signs and play equipment to help identify the new flora and fauna."
An open day will be held at the Lynfield Recreation Centre in the park at 9am-noon, Saturday 18 March. This will enable local residents and park users to view the plans and give their feedback.
"We would encourage anyone who uses the park to come down to the open day and have their say on the new proposals. It will be a great opportunity for them to enjoy some time in the park and meet the project managers who will be on hand throughout the morning to answer any questions," says Ms Hunter.
Margaret Griffen park concept plans will be on display in Lynfield Recreation Centre, Blockhouse Bay Library and Mount Roskill Library, from 11 March.
Local residents will receive a response card in the post
