Shoot some hoops in the streetball
series
Thousands of North Shore youngsters will
be pounding the pavements this month as part of the city's
three-on-three streetball series, which starts this
Saturday, February 25. The basketball series will involve
seven one-day events across the city, where young people
aged 10 to 18 years can be coached and take part in a
streetball-style competition.
The streetball series fits in with the North Shore City Council's Youth Destination Plan, which aims to encourage more youngsters to get physically active, and promote healthier lifestyles.
North Shore City's community liaison manager, Lisa Tocker, says the three-on-three series is a great opportunity for young people to have some fun and make the most of the city's parks.
"Kids need to get out there and celebrate being young and active," she says. "Feedback from young people said that they wanted more places to go."
"Three-on-three is a great way to get young people involved in the game. It will build their self confidence and social skills, as well as improving their lifestyle and their health."
North Shore City Council has contributed $5,000 to the programme.
