Art installed at Onepoto Domain
A grand entrance has just been created at Onepoto Domain, in the form of 140kg wrought steel gates.
Artist Jamie Pickernell's design takes its inspiration from water, raupo reeds and wildlife such as birds and eels in
the wetland at the park.
North Shore City's parks project co-ordinator, Victoria Sutherland, says the gates are not only practical, but also an
enduring piece of artwork for the city.
"We are gradually trying to incorporate art into the landscape at all our parks. These gates create an impressive
entrance, but also highlight some of the unique features about Onepoto Domain."
Over the last two years about $240,000 has been spent at the park creating better pedestrian access, shifting some big
trees, and planting formal gardens as well as the wetland.
The entrance from Sylvan Ave also includes stone pillars that guide people into the park, and soon a path will be
created from there up to the playground.
This is Jamie Pickernell's second piece of artwork for North Shore City. His macrocarpa and stone seat is just one piece
of sculpture to sit or play on at Kell Park in Albany.
