Can You Find Kev The Wandering Kiwi?

Get out and about and Push Play this summer and you and your family could win sports equipment to the value of $500.

Join Kev the Wandering Kiwi on his adventures as he explores four exciting recreational walking tracks that the Hutt Valley has to offer.

Every week between Monday 9 January and Monday 6 February keep an eye out in the Hutt News and Upper Hutt Leader for clues as to where Kev is visiting and for entry details.

Get your photo taken in the same spot as Kev and be in the draw to win some great prizes. Submit photos of all four locations and be in with a chance to win sporting goods valued at $500.

The walks can be completed at any time and entries close on Friday 10 February 2006.

To encourage both families and individuals to participate in the competition free ranger-led guided walks on the various walking tracks have been scheduled by the Greater Wellington Regional Council. All walks are at 10.30am.

* 12 January - Tunnel Gully, Pakuratahi Forest, Upper Hutt
* 19 January - Kaitoke Regional Park, Waterworks Rd entrance, Kaitoke
* 26 January - Belmont Regional Park, Oakleigh St entrance, Maungaraki
* 2 February - Wainuiomata Waterworks Recreation Area, Whitcher Grove, Wainuiomata

For participants comfort, it is recommended that they bring a drink bottle and wear sunscreen, sensible walking shoes and a jacket. Walks will be cancelled in heavy rain.

Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) recommend through the Push Play campaign that everyone should aim for a least 30 minutes moderate intensity physical activity a day.

Recent research conducted as part of the Hutt Valley Active Communities project indicates that 33% of Lower Hutt residents participate in either less than 2.5 hours of physical activity or none at all.

So come on, get out and about, spend time with family and friends, explore your region and best of all keep healthy and active.

Kev the Wandering Kiwi is a joint initiative of both Hutt and Upper Hutt City Councils and is supported by Greater Wellington Regional Council.
