CEO Delighted With Arrigato Announcement
Rodney District Council’s chief executive officer, Vijaya Vaidyanath, is thrilled with what she describes as a Christmas gift for the community.
That’s the announcement by the ARC that it intends to purchase the Arrigato site at Pakiri and convert it to a regional park.
“The Arrigato site will provide a wonderful regional park for Rodney’s residents and visitors,” Mrs Vaidyanath said.
“It’s a magnificent addition to the other ARC acquisitions in the district such as the Tuaman property, Waipiro Bay, and Atiu Creek farm at Wellsford.”
The Arrigato site is a substantial part of one of the most contentious subdivisions in New Zealand. That subdivision has been the subject of three Environment Court hearings and been twice to the Court of Appeal for resolution.
Resource consents requiring planting are still outstanding, and the Rodney District Council recently issued abatement notices after consent breaches.
Mrs Vaidyanath says the current resource consent conditions will need to be complied with, and that Rodney District Council will ensure those conditions are adhered to regardless of who owns the property.
“We will be meeting with all the owners once the sale has been completed to try and work out a common solution.”
