New Appointment - Plans On Display

In advance of our busy Xmas and New Year Holiday Period, The Coromandel Peninsula's most visited museum has a couple of exiting announcements.

NEW EDUCATION AND PUBLIC PROGRAMMES CO-ORDINATOR appointed.

Karen Miles has been appointed to develop a series of Public Events and Education activities, initially over the Holiday Period, and then to work with the schools on the Peninsula to satisfy the need and demnd for heritage and environmental education programmes.

Now that funding has been secured for a substantial part of Phase 1 of the redevelopment of the Mercury Bay Regional Museum, Architects - Royal Associates have produced a series of drawings for public comment, prior to detailed design and commencement of construction.

The attached sketches show the Ground plan indicating the new access Ramp, site for major Navigators exhibit, and our new Planetarium (which will incorporate the newly renovated Spitz Planetarium Projector). The picture shows a concept view of the new glazed corridor that will both brighten the museum, provide a gallery space, and also improve the flow of visitors through the building.

Building work is expected to commence in Early March 2006, with inital completion planned for July 06. The Navigators Exhibition is planned to open in November 2006.

Plans are now on view in the museum, 11 The Esplanade, Whitianga and comments are warmly welcomed.
