IT’S ALL ABOUT TO BEGIN!!!!
ENVIRONMENT AND HERITAGE EDUCATION CENTRE

Now that funds are in place to begin phase 1 of the redevelopment of the Mercury Bay Regional Museum, we are please to announce that the Environment and Heritage Education Centre will be in operation before Xmas.

A space that will be available to schools, pre-school and special interest groups, along with families and individuals is being created in the museum on Whitianga’s Esplanade.

Supported with a grant from Trust Waikato and others, the Education Centre will have education resources from DOC, EW, Project Kiwi, Kauri 2000 and other relevant sources, along with online access to significant sites for research and fun!

Keep an eye open for forthcoming public programmes that will be based in the Centre and an announcement on the appointment of an Education and Public Programmes Co-ordinator.

Once the Centre is established, it will be available to other museums and heritage groups in the Coromandel and Hauraki Region to use, and to help develop outreach programmes.

HELP NEEDED

Work is about to begin on the internal development of the Mercury Bay Regional Museum on Whitianga's Esplanade.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in bringing the museum up to international standard, beginning with a major new exhibition called THE NAVIGATORS, which will investigate the various methods of navigation to get to NZ, from Kupe to Cook. It will incorporate a newly renovated Spitz Planetarium Projector.

We need people with (but not exclusive to) the following skills :

Carpentry and general building skills Painting electrical electronics welding

We also need fit people to help with the movement of objects throughout the museum and to external workshops.

Transport for objects around the Mercury Bay is also needed.

Any time availability will be gratefully considered.
