Dawson Road Town Centre Makes Bid For Success
Manukau City Council’s Economic Development Committee has approved funding of $15,000 to Dawson Road Town Centre to assist in it becoming a Business Improvement District. (BID)
The Centre has become run down in the last few years. This is mainly due to the fact it is largely in private ownership and there has been a lack of cohesion and resulting difficulties in obtaining the necessary finances to upgrade amenities and improve the environment.
Planner Pam French says, “We have been working closely with business leaders in recent times, many of whom are keen to work towards the town centre becoming a BID; although it is not part of the Town Centre Strategy, this will enable the Centre to become pro-active with sustainable funds to support its future economic prosperity.
“Manukau City Council is involved in many projects to revitalise and redevelop the city and is keen to support this association, improve its image and business perception; this is part of our commitment to realising the goals of Tomorrow’s Manukau and creating vibrant and strong communities.”
