Fonterra provides fillip for flood relief
Matata’s Mayoral Flood Relief Fund will get a $1,500 boost, thanks to Fonterra Edgecumbe’s award-winning cream plant.
The plant took out the quality award for cream products at the recent New Zealand Institute of Food Science & Technology (NZIFST) Awards. The award is one of six annual awards presented by the Institute’s Dairy Division to recognise excellence in a range of dairy products, and comes with a $2,000 cash prize.
Cream Plant Manager Antony Moess said the plant operators wanted to take the chance to give some support to friends and relatives affected by the May floods that devastated the nearby town of Matata. The balance of the prize-money would be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Whakatane District Council Mayor Colin Holmes said the cream plant staff deserved congratulations, both for winning the award and for their community spirit.
