What you think about public transport in the Greater Wellington region
Key findings of Public Transport Customer Satisfaction Monitor
A recent survey (April 2005) by Greater Wellington Regional Council shows people in this region are regular users of
public transport and rate it highly. There is an increasingly positive perception of public transport.
Here’s a snapshot of your feedback.
- Almost three quarters of residents had used public transport in the last three months.
- 37% of residents use public transport regularly, ie, four days a week or more (up from 29% in 2003).
- Around one third of people (33%) use public transport (bus or train) as their main mode of transport to get around
Greater Wellington.
- A high proportion (69%) use public transport by choice.
- Cost and convenience are the main reasons for using public transport.
- 87% rate public transport as useful.
- Satisfaction with public transport services in Greater Wellington is increasing.
- Over two thirds of people (67%) consider the region’s public transport system to be highly regarded (up from 58% in
2003).
- Well timed, reliable connections between buses and trains would encourage people to use public transport more.
- Almost two thirds of people say if it were easier to get information on public transport it would encourage them to
use it more.
- Around two in five residents say they will use public transport more often in the future.

We’ve taken this feedback on board when developing the improvements being introduced with Metlink - providing better
information and integrated public transport services - and longer term Metlink improvements.
