Manukau City Council appoints new Chief
Executive
Manukau City Council announced today the appointment of Leigh Auton as its new Chief Executive.
Mr Auton, currently the Director of Environmental Management within the Council, will formally take up the role following the retirement of current CEO Colin Dale in April 2006. In the period between now and April Mr Auton, as Chief Executive designate, will be able to partner Colin Dale in a transfer of responsibility for one of the most complex roles in local government.
During this period the Chief Executive designate is likely to review aspects of organisation structure and the resourcing required to maintain the Council’s role in meeting the demands and issues faced by New Zealand’s fastest growing city.
Leigh Auton joined the organisation in 1978 as a planner, rising to the role of Director of Environmental Management in 1996.
“Leigh has been at the heart of many of the major initiatives that have made Manukau the city it is today and he has the confidence of the councillors to lead the organisation into the future, said Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis.
“Mr Auton has led delegations and convened many conferences raising the profile of the planning discipline and its practice in Manukau internationally.
“In moving into the next chapter in Manukau’s history we will have the opportunity to celebrate what has been achieved by the departing City Manager and look forward to an exciting future with the new Chief Executive”.
