Improvements make events centre even better

Improvements to North Shore Events Centre aim to ensure it continues to cater for the community as well as attract high profile regional, national and international events.

The third stage of the centre's building project will see catering facilities upgraded, an external ticketing area created and the administration offices relocated.

North Shore Events Centre was given landowner and landlord consent to go ahead from North Shore City Council's community services and parks committee today.

Committee chairwoman, Margaret Miles, says the centre is an excellent sporting and entertainment facility that is increasingly used by the community and for events.

"In the first half of this year more than 130,000 people have used it, from school groups, casual users and spectators to those involved in basketball, netball and gymnastics.

"North Shore Events Centre has created a good balance, with the community using the venue more than 70 per cent of the time," she says.

So far this year there have been several high profile events at the centre, including the Silver Ferns versus England netball test, Green Day and Simple Plan in concert, and the charity fund raiser Fight for Life.

Coming up is the Great New Zealand Craft Show, Boyz II Men in concert, the Under-23 National Basketball Championships, and NZ Breakers basketball games.

An outside ticketing booth at the Silverfield-based centre will make getting tickets much quicker and easier.

The North Shore Events Centre Trust Board owns, manages and operates the facility, and has a lease over the ground at AF Thomas Park from council.

"We're very happy to support the centre so it can continue to cater for our community, as well as attract even more first-class sports and entertainment events," says Councillor Miles.
