Wellington Zoo Roars into the Holidays
Wellington Zoo’s action packed school holiday programme means an enticing treat for all visiting children is also luxury time out for parents.
Parents who got in quick will afford themselves some blissful free time by booking their young animals into the Zoo School Holiday Programme. Running week days during the holidays, the programme provides young adventurers with an exciting experience learning about Pesky Pets, Earth Keepers and how to have Fun with Fur.
“Kids in this programme participate in loads of exciting activities; some will be making enrichment-toys for the Zoo animals or discovering the highs and lows of having fur,” says Wellington Zoo Team Leader Education, Edy MacDonald.
Children who may have missed out on attending the School Holiday Programme shouldn’t feel despondent. Wellington Zoo has joined forces with Reading Cinema to promote the animal film ‘Madagascar’.
“Kids should read up on their Lion facts as well as attend the Lion talk daily at 2:30pm to answer questions about Lions to win free passes to Reading Cinema,” says Wellington Zoo Marketing and Communications Officer, Jo Phillips.
“We’re also asking all children to draw their best version of ‘Madagascar’s’ Alex the Lion in our Elephant House to enter the draw to win some cool Madagascar toys,” says Jo.
Those who may be artistically challenged won’t miss out either with a free soft toy for all who dress up as a Lion when they visit the Zoo.
Targeting the younger market means the Zoo’s conservation education starts early and is a fun and active alternative to less hands-on educative tools.
“Our Living Room operates all year round providing children with an out of the classroom learning experience. The school holiday period provides us with an opportunity to not only give children a really exciting day out, but also a learning experience where they can see and hear for themselves why our eco-system is so important,” says Edy.
While the School Holiday programme is now full for these holidays, the programme will be open again for bookings in August.
