12-Week Fitness Challenge Just Around Corner

Hutt City Council is rising to the challenge of increasing the level of fitness of city residents through its 3x3 Fitness Challenge at local swimming pools.

During the challenge period, participants are set the goal of swimming or aqua-jogging at least 3 times per week over a 12-week period.

Best of all, the fitness challenge is free to enter, however normal pool entry prices apply. Participants can swim or aquajog at any indoor pool at any time of the day or night provided that the pool is open to the public.

The 3x3 Fitness Challenge is ideal for those that have the intention of participate in some form of physical activity, but haven't yet done so for a variety of reasons.

For those who would like an extra boost, professionally trained staffed from Swim City(r) can assist with specifically designed classes for adults who are either new to swimming or would like improve their technique.

It has long been recognised that participation in sport and physical activity while offering substantial health, social and economic benefits, also promotes a heightened sense of identity and self image.

The 3x3 Fitness Challenge has been developed to provide a 12-week training programme designed to:

* Reduce body fat and lose weight * Improve fitness * Increase muscle strength * Improve body tone

In addition, it is also an easy and fun way to improve health, reduce sickness and even meet new friends.

Registrations are now open and enrolment is being taken at Hutt City's three indoor pools.

The fitness challenge starts on Monday 1 August and runs through to Friday 28 October 2005 and includes a special "catch-up week" at the end of challenge, where participants can fill in any missed swims due to maintenance closures, illness or holidays.
