Green light for Barmy Army HQ

Green light for Barmy Army HQ

A meeting between members of Lighter Quay Management Services Ltd and the Mayor of Auckland City Dick Hubbard has ended positively with residents agreeing not to go ahead with legal proceedings to stop Barmy Army Headquarters in Halsey Street.

The mayor agreed that the applicant Elite Events Ltd had not consulted with the local residents.

“Our discussions this evening have been very positive,” says Mayor Dick Hubbard, “I have listened very carefully to the residents concerns and their concerns were valid.”

“The residents have accepted that this is a one-off event of very significant national interest. The final solution involves compromise by both parties and a mutual desire to work together.”

The mayor and the residents have worked hard to identify improvements to the proposed Barmy Army Headquarters which will reduce the impact of events on local residents without detracting from the event.

“I’m grateful to the residents for working with the city to find a win-win solution for all.”
