Pelorus Trust On Board For Fireshow

Local community charitable organisation, the Pelorus Trust is the new sponsor of the popular Hutt City Council organised fireworks display The Fireshow.

The event, to be held on Saturday 18 June on Petone Wharf will be known as the Pelorus Trust Fireshow.

Hutt City Mayor David Ogden has welcomed the Pelorus Trust's decision, praising their commitment to creating a significant event that draws people from around the region.

"This is one of the biggest events in Hutt City and was enjoyed by over 30,000 people last year," said Mayor Ogden.

"We are extremely grateful to the Pelorus Trust for agreeing to fund the fireworks display, particularly bearing in mind the disquiet on the part of some citizens about the wisdom of using ratepayer money in such a manner."

Award winning fireworks maestro Robert McDermott, from Explosive Entertainment, will choreograph the show. Mr McDermott has designed firework displays for many international events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics closing display from the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Pelorus Trust Fireshow starts at 7:30pm and will run for about 15 minutes to a soundtrack broadcast on Classic Hits 90FM.

The show will be launched from the Petone Wharf - with the best vantage points on the Petone Foreshore and surrounding hills.

A postponement date of Sunday 19 June will be in place. Listen to Classic Hits for an update on the day.

There is a day of entertainment planned on Petone Foreshore with the popular Solstice Splash - mid winter swim on from 12 noon - and the Petone Settlers Museum's Life through a Lens - capturing Petone on Film event.

Life through a Lens encourages participants to photograph scenes on Petone Foreshore during a 24 hour period. Organised activities include scavenger hunts and kite flying.
