RAM speaks in Tauranga against road corporatisation
RAM, a leader of Auckland's Rates Revolt, will be speaking in Tauranga tomorrow against tolls on that city's strategic
Harbour Link Bridge.
"New Zealand is about to be turned into one big toll road market whether people like it or not," said Elaine West, who
will present RAM's case to the Consultation Hearing Panel.
"The people of Tauranga are being bullied by council and government officials into accepting tolls as the only way to
get the Harbour Link Bridge built as part of the city's strategic road network."
"RAM will support the people who want Harbour Link to be built without tolls by using government funds," she said.
Elaine West says the government is intent on setting up our nation's roads as business enterprises.
"Our roads are about to be corporatised by stealth. Eventually, all users will pay directly via tolls and other direct
road user charges, with private sector investors set to make huge profits."
"At present, the road corporatisation agenda is hidden from view for fear of public backlash."
"RAM is intent on exposing the road corporatisation plans of both Labour and National. We support New Zealand
communities fighting to keep roads in public ownership and freely available to all members of society, no matter what
their income or circumstance," said Elaine West.
