Homicide weapon recovered
A weapon, believed to be
the weapon used in the attack on homicide victim Maru George
two nights ago, has been recovered as a result of an
extensive scene search by police say O/C Detective Inspector
Malcolm Johnston.
"We have also found an object, which I cannot elaborate on, which will link the offender to the scene," he says.
Police are also seeking a man who arrived at the grounds of St Lukes Anglican church at Manchester/ Kilmore Streets around midnight Monday/ Tuesday with the deceased man.
"He arrived around midnight with Maru George but has not come forward to identify himself," says Malcolm Johnston. "When police arrived, a lot of people at the scene took off and not all have contacted us to identify themselves. We'd like to speak to him because we think he may have valuable information; we don't believe he is involved."
D I Johnston says that he is aware that the cordons around the search scene in Central Christchurch disrupted the public, local residents and businesses.
"I wish to personally thank all for their patience and perseverance," he says. "The results do enforce how crucial a thorough scene search is."
