Caravan Park Residents Given More Time

Manukau City Council has extended the deadline for the closure of Mangere's Greenacres Caravan Park to 7 March 2005 to give residents time to find alternative accommodation.

On 9 February 2005 the Council issued an abatement notice under the Resource Management Act, giving trustees of the park 14 days to wind up operation. Last week the Council extended the deadline from 23 February to 7 March 2005 to give the 12 remaining families more time to find somewhere else to live.

Manukau City Council's Environmental Health and Enforcement Manager Kevin Jackson says the caravan park does not have a camping ground licence, the required codes of compliance, or resource consent.

There is no immediate danger in keeping the park open for a few days longer in terms of building structure or the health and safety of residents, says Mr Jackson.
