What do Weeds, Pests, and Streams have in common?

A free environment workshop provides an opportunity to learn how to identify weeds, monitor streams, and control pests.

The Auckland Regional Council is hosting an environment workshop on Saturday 5 March at the Helensville War Memorial Hall. It is the first of three workshops to be held in the Auckland region.

Presentations will be made by ARC staff, Wai Care - a water quality monitoring education and action programme, Ark in the Park - a project by the Forest and Bird Waitakere Branch, the Department of Conservation, and environment community groups and individuals.

The workshop aims to assist groups and individuals with

ARC Deputy Chair, Christine Rose, says the workshop demonstrates ARC’s commitment to working with the community.

“The workshop comes at a great time in that community stewardship efforts are thriving particularly in Rodney. This means we can achieve a lot more in caring for our diverse and beautiful area. The ARC is happy to help resource and develop this ethic and we look forward to meeting together to share ideas and skills,” says Cr. Rose.

The following sessions will be held: “FORMAK Forest Monitoring Toolkit”, “Weedbusters!”, “Beyond Mainland Islands – the Waitakere Arkipelago”, “Streams, Water and Wai Care”, “Weeds Workshop” and “Predator and Pest Control Workshop”.

The workshop runs from 9.45am to 3.00pm. Come for the whole day or drop in for a session that interests you.
