Thumbs up for Ericsson Stadium’s new East Stand

Thumbs up for Ericsson Stadium’s new East Stand

10 February 2005

Ericsson Stadium’s new East Stand is winning plaudits from patrons, promoters and resident NRL club the Vodafone Warriors just weeks after its completion.

The new stand, which doubles as headquarters for the Vodafone Warriors, had its first public test at the recent Big Day Out and passed with flying colours.

Promoters, patrons and even the media heaped praise on the new stand and the difference it made to the event.

A crowd of 40,000 attended the Big Day Out and the promoters credited the new East Stand and its facilities as a major contributor to the smooth running of the event.

The extra capacity provided by the new stand made it easier for people to move around on the day and the additional covered seating, toilets and food and beverage outlets were a welcome relief for fans braving scorching summer conditions to see their favourite music acts.

As well as the new facilties, Big Day Out patrons were impressed with the view from the stand, something Vodafone Warriors fans will appreciate when the 2005 NRL season kicks off in early March. The new stand’s closeness to the sideline and steep structure provide a great all-encompassing view of the on field action.

The Vodafone Warriors themselves have moved into the new stand which is now the club’s headquarters.

“We couldn’t be happier after moving across the road into our new premises,” Vodafone Warriors general manager Spiro Tsiros says.

“We’re delighted with the look and feel of the stadium now the East Stand has been completed. It means we have what is unquestionably one of the best stadiums in the NRL competition

“Certainly our players have facilities second to none with an outstanding new gym, theatre-styled team room and state of the art locker room facilities.”

ARC Chairman Michael Lee says he is delighted with the early feedback on the new stand.

“Delivering this $23 million project on time and within budget was an important achievement and the positive response from our business partners the Vodafone Warriors, patrons, promoters and others is great news for Ericsson Stadium’s future,” Cr Lee says.

“The feedback we have had already underlines the difference this new stand makes to Ericsson Stadium’s total package as a leading sports and entertainment venue.”

Cr Lee says since the East Stand’s completion the stadium has had considerable interest from music promoters and other sporting codes keen to make greater use of Ericsson Stadium.
