Hutt business continues to Go Ahead
Major new construction projects underway around the Hutt will produce as much as $250 million in new developments and create 1500 new jobs in the CBD alone said Hutt City General Manager, Strategic Development Kim Kelly.
To keep people informed and provide a picture of major construction as they happen, the Hutt City portal now has information on major current construction developments in Hutt City.
Ms Kelly said most people are probably not aware of just how many developments are going on around the city.
"The new projects are an expression of confidence in the Hutt as a great place to do business and provide compelling evidence that business is going ahead in the Hutt," said Kim Kelly.
"The current construction projects add significantly to the Hutt economy and provide thousands of jobs over the life of the construction projects.
Details of the new projects can be found at
A recent
survey found a third of Hutt businesses will need more
business space in the next five years and the overwhelming
majority of Hutt City businesses are planning to remain in
Hutt City, including most of those looking at shifting to
new premises. Major new developments currently under
construction include:
* The $140 million redevelopment of
Westfield including: * A new three-level carpark running
the full length of Waterloo Road which will be available for
parking by Christmas with progressive handover throughout
2005. * The new mall being constructed in Queens Drive
which has started now and will be complete in November
2005. * The new multi million dollar Mitre 10 Mega store
-- including a 7,000 square metre retail warehouse, 2,000
square metres of garden centre and cafe, 1,000 square metres
of outdoor storage and 300 on site car parks. This is on
schedule for an opening by mid-2005. * Demolition work has
begun for a new 6,620 square metre Pak'N Save supermarket at
the corner of High Street and Brunswick Street to be
completed late in 2005. * First staff will move into the
new Contact Energy Service Centre at the former Levene's
building on High Street in December 2004. Work is nearing
completion on the new Bunnings Warehouse store located on
Cambridge Terrace in Naenae. The approx 7,000square metre
hardware store is due to open in December. ENDS
