Report on major events requested
At its first meeting today, Auckland City’s Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee called for a report on the city’s strategy for facilitating major events.
“The report will provide context for the committee to consider current policies and future strategic options for holding major events in the city,” said Councillor Richard Northey, the committee’s chair.
The committee asked for the report to include information about the 2005 Lions rugby tour and the potential for the 2011 Rugby World Cup to be based in Auckland.
“The report will enable us to look at how we assist the growth of events, how to facilitate holding new events and how to seek out new events in a systematic way,” said Mr Northey.
The report has been requested for the committee’s February meeting.
