Closure of Southern Motorway southbound

Closure of Southern Motorway southbound
Transit New Zealand advises that the southbound lanes of the Southern Motorway between Cook Street and the Grafton Road on-ramp will be closed from 10pm Friday 29 October until 8am on Saturday 30 October 2004.
Hobson Street and Symonds Street on-ramps will also be closed from 9pm Friday 29 until 8am Saturday 30 October. The Northwestern to the Southern Motorway link will be closed all weekend from 8pm Friday until 6am Monday 1 November. Motorists will be diverted off the Northwestern motorway at the Wellesley Street on-ramp and onto the Wellesley Street On-ramp to the Southern Motorway.
These closures are required to enable the final section of concrete to be poured onto the widened motorway bridge. Removing traffic from the bridge while the concrete sets ensures it bonds well with the bridge steelwork.
All detours will be fully signposted and closures will be publicised in the New Zealand Herald public notices and on the radio. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be aware that delays are expected. Transit thanks motorists in advance for their cooperation.
For more information, visit the project information centre at the corner of Stanley Street and Alten Road, telephone 0800 to Freeflow (0800 863 733) or visit the project website at http://cmi.transit.govt.nz/
On completion, this work will create extra capacity in the Central Motorway Junction. The work is part of Stage 1 of Transit New Zealand's Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, expected to be completed in January 2005.
