Temporary closures on SH1 at Plimmerton on Friday night
Transit New Zealand advises road users that State Highway 1 between Grays Road and James Street, Plimmerton will have a stop/go operation in place between 9pm Friday 29 October and 6am Saturday 30 October 2004. In addition, the road will be closed for at least two periods of up to 30 minutes at a time between 12 midnight and 5am on Saturday morning (30 October). These restrictions are required to facilitate installation of a new footbridge at Plimmerton.
Transit project manager Catherine Worsley said the timing of the 30-minute closures in the early hours of Saturday morning shouldn’t cause any major delays, but people using the road at that time should allow extra travelling time.
“As the road closures will be brief and intermittent we won’t be putting a detour in place and are asking road users to allow extra time when planning their journey,” said Ms Worsley. “However, emergency services are aware of the planned closures and will have alternative routes planned if necessary.”
Ms Worsley said the old wooden footbridge would be replaced by a new steel structure. Its replacement is part of the Plimmerton to Paremata project currently under construction.
“The old bridge will be dismantled and the new one lifted into place. It is a complex operation and we deliberately timed it for the early hours of the morning to avoid major traffic and pedestrian disruption and to allow us to work as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Ms Worsley.
