Buller business receives Development Trust funding

A $474,000 loan facility from The West Coast Development Trust is behind the recent redevelopment of Berlins Bar and Café in the Buller Gorge.

Owners, Steve Reynolds and Donna Craddock, are using the loan to purchase the property, remodel the building into a café/bar and improve the existing accommodation units.

Steve and Donna also operate Xtreme Adventures, New Zealand’s only river-based jetski adventure company. The Berlins redevelopment will provide a new base for Xtreme Adventures’ jetski and motor scooter hire operation and allow development of an overall package experience for people travelling through the Buller location.

“The Development Trust is pleased to support this business loan that further promotes tourism activity on the West Coast and enhances a key and growing driver industry” says Frank Dooley, chairman of The Development Trust. “The refurbishments have certainly got off to an interesting start discovering an old buried bomb during the alterations.”

Funding is expected to promote three full-time jobs and an additional part-time role in Berlins’ first year of operation.
