Plan Change Provides Certainty To SPCA

Plan Change Provides Certainty To SPCA And Their Neighbours

The SPCA Animal Village will be in a better position to carry out its work and without disturbing the neighbours, thanks to a proposed plan change.

At their September meeting, Manukau City Council's Hearings Committee passed Plan Change No. 3 - Animal Village Zone. The aim of the plan change is to provide more formal recognition of the SPCA's Animal Village and any future effects it will have on the local community within the context of the District Plan.

The Plan change follows extensive consultation by Council with neighbouring property owners, key stakeholders and Tangata Whenua last year, and the formal notification of the Plan Change in April of this year.

Chairperson of Council's Hearings Committee, Councillor Jan Sinclair says "Because this new Animal Village Zone identifies which areas within the present site are suitable for each animal welfare activity, the SPCA can continue redeveloping their facilities at the same time avoiding or limiting any adverse effects on their neighbours.

"The volunteers at SPCA carry out such tremendous work in the animal welfare field in both Manukau and the wider Auckland Region and it's important that we support them where possible," says Councillor Sinclair.

The Plan Change will come into effect on the 18 October.
