Mayors have progressive meeting over V8
“It was a good meeting with the Mayor of North Shore City, both cities’ chief executives and our respective senior planning officials,” Hon John Banks said today after getting together with George Wood to discuss the proposed V8 supercar street race for the central city.
Today’s meeting follows a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transit two weeks ago.
“Transit has already told us that if we can jump certain high hurdles and get through quite narrow hoops they will support us,” said Mr Banks.
“Auckland City and the event organisers want to go back to the independent commissioners with all the homework in place, and that includes satisfying the concerns of the North Shore City Council.”
Mr Banks said a lot of work is happening behind the scenes between Transit, Auckland City, and North Shore City involving the likes of traffic planners and roading engineers. The issues identified by the commissioners in early August are now being confronted head-on.
The commissioners’ are set to re-convene their resource consent hearings in the first week of November.
