Snow Update For News Media From Christchurch City
Snow Update For News Media From Christchurch City Council
Thank you to everyone who called today looking for street and other information about the snow.
Here's a bit of an update:
1) Hill suburbs recycling and refuse collections
Almost all (98%) of the hill collections were completed by the end of the day. There are still a few small roads the contractor has been unable to get to, generally side roads off Dyers Pass Rd or at the very top of the hills, eg Mount Pleasant.
We would like these householders to take in their bags and put them out again tomorrow morning. If the weather allows it, a vehicle will be sent up tomorrow to collect them. Any missed recycling collections will be picked up next week.
2) Trees
Only a couple of trees came down as a result of snow load.
3) Streets
By midday all but Dyers Pass Rd (above the Sign of the Takahe) and Summit Rd had been gritted and reopened.
We reopened Dyers Pass Road all the way up around mid-afternoon. It is possible it will be shut again tonight if there's a strong frost. Summit Road remains closed. Drivers using the hill suburb streets need to take care.
